Trial By Jury & ThespisJune 2011, Epsom Playhouse Director: John Harries-Rees
Trial By Jury Bitter over Edwin's refusal to marry, Angelina takes him to court to demand his hand in marriage. Poor Edwin is forced to defend himself in front of a jury and a judge that obviously favor the beautiful defendant. Edwin, in fact, loves another lady and proposes that as a compromise, he marry Angelina today, and then the next day he can marry the lady he loves. The idea is refused and in the end the Judge solves the case by agreeing that he, himself will marry Angelina.
Thespis This, the first collaboration of Gilbert and Sullivan, was conceived as a Christmas entertainment for the Gaiety Theatre where it received its first performance on 26 December 1871 and ran for 63 performances. The Gods on Mount Olympus are old and tired, so decide to leave Mount Olympus and take a holiday. Meanwhile a troupe of travelling actors take their place. Most of the original music for this opera has been lost, so performances today either adapt music from other Sullivan scores, or use a score by a composer who has written a replacement for the lost music.

La Cage Aux FollesJanuary 2012, Epsom Playhouse Director: Jeff Raggett
Georges and his lover Albin, who stars as Zaza at their St. Tropez drag nightclub, "La Cage aux Folles," have lived happily together for many years. Albin is the club's star female impersonator while Georges is the club's Master of Ceremonies. Problems arise when Georges' twenty-five year old son, Jean-Michel, a result from a brief encounter years back, announces that he is engaged to Anne Dindon. Anne is the daughter of a well-known homophobic politician, Edouard Dindon. Anne's parents want to come and meet Jean-Michel's mother and father. Little do they know that Albin, a man, has essentially been Jean-Michel's mother figure his whole life. Jean-Michel wants to keep Albin away from the Dindons but Albin is hurt and insists on making an appearance. In the end, due to a little blackmail, the Dindons are forced to accept Jean-Michel into their family.
